Groppello di Santo Stefano

One of three genuinely distinct MASAF-registered Groppello biotypes native to Lake Garda's Valtènesi hills. Riviera del Garda Classico DOC's own Allegato 2 (list of suitable varieties) confirms it as its own separately registered entry ("Groppello di S. Stefano N."), not a biotype/synonym of a single generic "Groppello" — the same treatment already established in this dataset for Schiava Gentile/Grigia/Grossa and the three Malvasia subtypes. The least individually documented of the three Groppello biotypes in general ampelographic literature, it is consistently grown and vinified alongside Groppello Gentile and Groppello di Mocasina rather than as a standalone bottling.

One of three named components (with Groppello Gentile and Groppello di Mocasina) of Riviera del Garda Classico's varietal "Groppello" typology (minimum 85% combined) and of the DOC's red/rosso superiore/chiaretto/Valtènesi base blend (minimum 30% combined), alongside Marzemino/Barbera/Sangiovese. A grape with the same bare name ("Groppello") is also referenced, unresolved, in Toscana's Val di Magra IGT (see data/grapes/groppello.json) — its own text leaves it undetermined whether that Lunigiana reference means this variety or Groppello Gentile; this profile does not assert that identity.
