Grillo

Grillo is a white grape of western Sicily, historically the mainstay of quality Marsala and now one of the island's most important dry white varieties. Genetic study has shown it to be a natural crossing of Catarratto and the Muscat of Alexandria (Zibibbo), which helps explain its aromatic lift.

It combines good structure and body with fresh acidity and can develop notable alcohol in Sicily's warm climate, giving dry whites with citrus, ripe orchard and tropical fruit, herbal notes and a saline finish. Grillo remains central to Marsala while also producing characterful still varietal wines across the island.
