Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer is the intensely aromatic pink-skinned white grape whose name combines the German Gewürz ('spice') with Tramin, the South Tyrolean village of Termeno long associated with the Traminer family from which it derives. In Italy it is at home in Alto Adige/Südtirol and Trentino, where it is also called Traminer Aromatico, and it is the same aromatic clone grown across Alsace and the Alpine belt.

It gives full-bodied, low-to-moderate-acid whites of deep golden colour and unmistakable perfume: lychee, rose petal, candied citrus, ginger and exotic spice. Styles range from dry to richly sweet late-harvest and passito. Its powerful aromatics make it one of the most recognisable white wines in the world.
