Forastera

Forastera is a white wine grape native to the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples, where together with Biancolella it forms the backbone of the island's white wines. Its name derives from 'forestiera' (foreign), and it spread widely on Ischia from the nineteenth century, in part because of its vigour and resistance on the island's steep volcanic terraces.

Forastera produces dry white wines of light body and straw-yellow color with greenish reflections, showing fresh, vinous and lightly citrus, herbal character with brisk acidity. It is used as a varietal and as the majority partner in the Ischia bianco blend.
