Fogarina

Red grapeReggio Emilia (Gualtieri)
← Grapes

Fogarina is a red grape of the Reggio Emilia plain, associated with Gualtieri in the low land along the Po, where it was celebrated in an early-20th-century folk song. Once widely grown for high-acid, deeply colored everyday wine, it survives as a minor, revived native.

It gives sharp, tart, deeply colored reds, historically valued more for acidity and color than finesse and often made lightly sweet or sparkling.
