A white grape grown primarily in Piedmont, most widely planted on the left bank of the Tanaro in the Roero, with further plantings in the Langhe. DNA profiling shows it is related to the Ligurian varieties Pigato and Vermentino (once thought to be the same grape, officially classified as distinct in 1964). It ripens late while keeping a fair amount of acidity, and is noted for intense pear notes; it ages for a shorter time than Arneis.
