Damaschino

Damaschino is a white grape of western Sicily, grown mainly in the province of Trapani, whose name suggests an eastern Mediterranean (Damascus) origin in local tradition. It has been used as one of the permitted white grapes of Marsala and appears in western-Sicilian dry white blends and varietal denominations such as Delia Nivolelli.

It gives light, neutral, fairly low-acid whites with delicate citrus and orchard-fruit character, generally used to add softness and volume to blends rather than for pronounced aroma. It is a minor but traditional part of the western-Sicilian white repertoire.
