Corinto Nero

Corinto Nero is a dark-skinned grape of the Aeolian Islands off north-eastern Sicily, notable for being naturally seedless (apyrenic), a rare trait among wine grapes. It is grown chiefly on Lipari and Salina, where it is the small red complement (5-8%) permitted in the sweet white Malvasia delle Lipari.

Because the berries are seedless they remain small, and the grape is used for its colour and structure, sometimes dried like the Malvasia. It is a minor but characterful part of the Aeolian viticultural heritage, occasionally vinified into a dry or sweet red on its own.
