Cococciola

Cococciola is a white grape native to the province of Chieti in southern Abruzzo, long grown as a blending and table grape and once used chiefly for its bracing acidity in base wines. In recent decades it has been revived as a varietal, both for fresh still whites and, thanks to its acidity, for sparkling wine.

It gives light- to medium-bodied whites with high acidity, delicate citrus and white-flower aromas and a crisp, saline finish. It appears as a named varietal in the Abruzzo DOC and is one of the region's distinctive native whites alongside Pecorino, Passerina and Montonico.
