Catarratto

Also known as Catarratto Bianco Comune, Catarratto Bianco Lucido.

Catarratto is a white grape of western Sicily and long one of the most widely planted vine varieties in all of Italy, concentrated in the province of Trapani. It exists in two main biotypes, Catarratto Bianco Comune and the finer Catarratto Bianco Lucido, and has historically been a workhorse for Marsala and for bulk and blending wine.

Increasingly it is vinified as a fresh dry varietal white, giving medium-bodied wines with citrus and orchard fruit, herbal and sometimes lightly aromatic notes, and a pleasant acidity. It appears across most western and central Sicilian denominations as a base or blending white.
