Cagnulari

Red grapenorth-western Sardinia (Sassari/Usini)
← Grapes

Also known as Cagniulari, Bovale di Spagna (locally, debated).

Cagnulari is a native red grape of north-western Sardinia, centred on the Sassari area and especially Usini, where it was nearly lost before a local revival. It appears in the Alghero DOC and in varietal IGT wines.

It gives deeply coloured, fruity, moderately tannic reds with black and red berry flavours, herbal notes and a fresh acidity, increasingly bottled as a characterful varietal red of the Sassari hinterland.
