Bovale Sardo

Red grapeSardinia (of probable Iberian origin)
← Grapes

Also known as Bovaleddu, Muristellu.

Bovale Sardo is one of two Sardinian 'Bovale' grapes (the other, Bovale Grande, is close to Carignano), a dark-skinned red of probable Iberian origin grown in central and southern Sardinia — the Mandrolisai and Campidano di Terralba in particular. It is often identified with the Spanish Graciano.

It gives deeply coloured, tannic and structured reds with dark fruit and spice, valued for backbone in blends such as Mandrolisai (with Cannonau and Monica) and as the base of Campidano di Terralba.
