Aglianicone

Aglianicone is a red wine grape of the Salerno province in Campania, grown in the Cilento interior around denominations such as Castel San Lorenzo. Despite the name ('big Aglianico') it is a variety distinct from Aglianico, with which it was long confused; ampelographic and genetic studies have shown it to be its own grape rather than a clone of Aglianico.

Aglianicone gives ruby-colored reds tending to garnet with age, of full body with an intense, persistent nose of red-berry fruit and a savoury, dry, well-structured palate. It is vinified as a varietal (minimum 85%) and as a riserva within the Castel San Lorenzo DOC.
